IMMULITE® Free T3
DPC
has recently released IMMULITE Free T3 for the measurement of free T3
in serum. Measure-ments of T3, either total or free, are used primarily
to confirm the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, especially in cases of T3
thyrotoxicosis and in hyperthyroidism associated with low TSH and normal
T4 levels.
IMMULITE Free T3 is a solid-phase, competitive, sequential, chemiluminescent
enzyme immuno-assay. The assay uses an analog procedure in which T3 with
a biotinylated amino group serves as the T3 analog tracer. The biotin
of the analog blocks its binding to thyroid hormone binding globulin (TBG)
and transthyretin; a combination of chemical blocking agents prevents
binding to albumin. Thus, the endogenous proteins are effectively blocked
from binding the T3 analog tracer, to ensure an accurate estimate of free
T3.
The
IMMULITE Free T3 kit requires a total incubation time of 60 minutes and
has a calibration range of 1 to 40 pg/mL. It is available in kit sizes
of 100 and 500 tests.
