Michael Ziering, CEO and President, DPC, and Marilyn Ziering, Vice President, Marketing Communications, DPC, along with Steve Britton, Managing Director, EURO/DPC, were introduced to Prince Charles and, following a light lunch, they accompanied His Royal Highness on a limited tour of the facility. During the visit, the Prince stopped and spoke to many of the staff. He even made an unscheduled stop into an office with an open door, speaking to three staff members who were taken completely by surprise. The Prince was fascinated by the workings of both the original IMMULITE® and the IMMULITE® 2000 as well as by the contribution DPC's technology is making to healthcare throughout the world. He watched brief instrument demonstrations given by Emma Dunt, EURO/DPC IMMULITE QC, and Lisa Truslove, the UK National Sales Manager. Having walked through the manufacturing facilities, His Royal Highness commented on the high morale and enthusiasm apparent among staff members and management. He also reiterated congratulations on EURO/DPC's 1998 Queen's Award for Export Achievement. The Prince referred to DPC as a pioneer for having installed a high-tech manufacturing and distribution facility in such a rural location. The plant was designed to be environmentally friendly with controlled waste streams, recycling policies and energy-efficient utilities. Now the largest single private sector employer in the area, the Glyn Rhonwy facility is successfully supporting the ongoing needs of the UK, of DPC, Los Angeles and of DPC Instrument Systems Division, New Jersey as sales continue to increase rapidly. His Royal Highness also spoke of EURO/DPC's enlightened approach in taking a proactive role within the local community by encouraging staff to become part-time firemen; lifeboat reservists; and tutors in local schools to help children with difficulties in reading, writing or arithmetic. During the tour, the Prince and Mrs. Ziering cut a special anniversary cake. His Royal Highness was particularly interested in the unusual design of the cake, which depicted the latest DPC "chess piece" marketing initiative. Before leaving the facility, the Prince unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit. He then left the site, having commandeered Mr. Britton's car: the notorious North Wales weather prevented the safe departure of the royal helicopter. All modes of transport have since been returned to their rightful owners! It was an amazing day that left everyone involved with memories to be shared for years to come. |
