Less
than two years ago, DPC, in collaboration with Dr. Henri Malandain (Vannes,
France), produced a new tool in its growing library of educational CDs.
Titled Investigating Cross-reactions of Allergens, this CD made
available a unique database containing extensive information on cross-reactivity
occurring between allergens, emphasizing the importance of recognizing
allergens within molecular families rather than taxonomic groupings. Understanding
the relationships between these molecules and their roles in cross-reactivity
and allergic sensitization is vital to the diagnosing physician, preventing
incorrect diagnoses in unexpected clinical situations and reducing the
risk of unnecessary measures (avoidance) or treatments (immunotherapy).
Desiring
to supply customers with the most current information, DPC recently released
Dr. Malandain's newest updates at the 2005 EAACI symposium held in Munich,
Germany, during the last week of June. The new version of the CD (catalog
number: ZS1268CD) provides important updates to the tables of molecular
allergen families, adding to the physician's and laboratorian's base of
knowledge. The menu system also has been revised to enhance navigation
through drop-down menus that appear on every page.
In addition
to this CD, DPC has also recently released a brochure describing other
tools available for investigating cross-reactivity. The brochure, titled
DPC's Solutions for Investigating Allergen Cross-reactivity (catalog
number: ZS1878), and the CD can be obtained by contacting your local DPC
representative.
